Duties of a Forklift Driver
Forklift operators usually are employed in factories and warehouses. Their role is to move supplies and goods from one place to another. They must be trained to utilized the lift truck controls safely. Specialized training is a prerequisite. Drivers must pass a drug test and have a background check.

Performing Checks
HRSDC and OSHA both require forklift operators to carry out daily and pre-shift checks. Lift truck operator training should consist of the proper performance of safety inspections to assure optimum functionality. An inspection must also be done at the end of every shift. Regular safety training must be undertaken on a yearly basis.

Unloading and Loading
The forklift driver is tasked with the job of unloading and loading supplies in a safe and timely manner. This job also involves the stacking of materials in an organized way so they are accessible.

Weighing Supplies
The duties of a forklift operator could include weighing the materials that are being moved and recording the weights.

Quality Control
Forklift drivers are in charge of quality control. They must make certain that products do not sustain damage during transportation inside the warehouse and orders are correct.

Safety Awareness
A responsible lift truck driver should have exceptional skills in awareness and attention to safety. Drivers should exhibit a high level of concern for the safety of both employees and pedestrians. The operator must find the safest way to handle challenges, like for example navigating a steep surface with a cargo. The operator will have to determine the safest route to take. An operator's training will involve learning about the elements that can cause a lift truck to tip over. The operator needs to be extremely familiar with the safety ratings and design of the lift truck unit that they are using. A lift truck driver must be sensitive to the need for breaks to avoid exhaustion. Forklift accidents are more likely to happen when an operator is exhausted.
